Artist's Comments

Mwaha. I am accomplishing things. This is a birthday present for a friend of mine, who has been sucked into the joy that is Firefly, and whom has developed a great love for Jayne. And I have to say: this was SO MUCH FUN to do. I'm quite proud of it, also, since it's a pretty passable and recognizable portrait. And the recipient of this gift really, really likes it, too, so I'm pretty thrilled.

And what's this? Me, working in traditional media? Mixed media, no less? I've actually been having LOADS of fun with this technique over the past couple of weeks. This isn't the first picture I've done this way, but the first one was for school and is too weird to post here, and the second isn't quite done yet. (It's a Delirium fanart, and it should be up in the next few days.) It's a mixture of graphite pencils, prismacolour pencils, LOTS of rubbing alcohol and blending marker (oh, the FUMES), grey Copic marker, and gouache. Anybody who hasn't tried blending colour/graphite pencils with blending markers or rubbing alcohol, I highly reccomend it. It's loads of fun. For the first time, I'm really, really enjoying doing something in traditional media, even if it IS pretty messy-looking. In this case, it's a good kind of messy-looking. Really textured and stylized. LOVE.

Edit: Argh, I completely forgot to source my reference image: [link]
Sorry if this shows up on your watch again; I just felt guilty not doing that.

Good likeness! I like the planes of his face and the way he's rendered realistic but the coloured elements bring out the black and white elements, it's interesting and cool. And very recognizable. You really captured Jayne's character.

This lokks cool. I like his expression. He looks kinda coldlike, and theres a beanie cap to warm the picture up.

I know I'm sane. see, I'm sane enough to know I'm crazy, so I'm not completely crazy, but when i say I'm NOT crazy, then I'll have gone crazy, because I'll no longer be sane enough to know I'm going crazy.

I am better than normal! I am abnormal!

Thanks. :D Since it WAS referenced from a photo, the expression sorta comes from there, but I'm glad it seems I was able to capture it. XD

Wow. Looks close to a photo. Your friend should be proud.
